Easy Carrot Halwa/Indian Dessert/Winter Special
Making the popular Indian dessert known as "Carrot Halwa". Halwa is a yummy dessert that is reserved for celebratory occasions. It isn’t difficult to make. Carrot halwa is a popular sweet made in North India, and it is especially popular during winters. It’s made with fresh carrots, ghee(clarified butter), sugar, cardamom powder, nuts and milk but today I’m using milk powder instead. Hope you all will enjoy this delicious Indian dessert. Cold weather and soup, a perfect combo!
When winter rolls around we need soup to warm up our tummy. Last night's dinner was salmon, shrimp, potatoes, tomatoes, red onion and vegetables freshly picked from the backyard garden - mustard spinach, bok choy, tatsoi, joi choi, purple Osaka mustard and purple pak choy.
Chicken soup with spinach and lemon from the garden
This hearty chicken soup, a Filipino-style chicken soup we call "tinola" is perfect on a cold winter night. The arsenal: crushed garlic, chopped onion, sliced ginger, chicken thighs and wings, chayote sliced into bite size pieces, a pinch of salt, a good cracking of black peppercorns, freshly picked spinach and lemon from the backyard edible garden. Slurp, slurp... yum!
