# Winter gardening
Harvesting leafy greens and laurel leaves
Fall and winter gardening means lots of leafy greens which are good immune system booster. Last night's harvest from the raised beds in our backyard edible garden were joi choi and bok choy for our Filipino soup. I also picked a branch of laurel plant.
Growing and harvesting COLLARD GREENS
Fall and Spring are the perfect seasons to grow collard greens in our growing zone. They are one of my favorite leafy greens to grow in our backyard edible garden because they are packed with nutrients and anti-oxidant and can be cooked in many different ways.
Vegetable garden tour and harvest for beef soup
Come join me for a quick garden tour while I harvest some leafy vegetables to put on our soup for dinner. Some mustard spinach, tatsoi, bok choy, purple Osaka mustard and purple pak choy. I am making a pot of beef soup with potatoes and veggies. A perfect recipe on a cold rainy winter night. If you are interested in growing your own food and wondering how to start an edible garden, I would start with a raised bed. Raised bed gardening is way easier — easier to control the soil moisture and pH level as well as the pests like slugs, snails and rollie poppies. I like growing vegetables on 4 ft by 4 ft raised beds. What to grow in the garden? The possibilities are endless especially if you are in growing zones with mild winters like California. Happy gardening and cooking! 🌱
