The Washington Football Team is getting a new name on February 2nd
The Washington Football Team announced today that they will be unveiling their new nickname on February 2nd. I for one am not thrilled with the announcement. I actually kind of like the “Football Team” name. When you look around North American professional sports, teams are linked to their names. The Leafs, Blue Jays, Jazz, Ducks, Cardinals, are the least intimidating names in sports, and I have no idea who would be scared of birds? The Football Team just sounds a little badass, “We’re the Football Team”. Regardless of my thoughts on the name change, we got no hints from Washington on what the name is going to be. They did confirm though that it will not be the two most popular suggestions, “Wolves” and “Red Wolves”. Washington’s team president said that the legal and trademarking battle wouldn’t be worth it. It was confirmed that Washington will be keeping their traditional burgundy and yellow colours. It’s not that exciting of a story, but Washington will no longer be nameless.
