Lingcod & Dungeness Crab Combo Trip
We were out targeting lingcods & dungeness crabs in Halfmoon Bay. The weather started off nice but turned quickly once the wind picked up. We didn't get limits but did fairly well considering the rough weather. Enjoy the video
Playful dolphins riding the surf line
Blessed to encounter these sights each time I'm out fishing along the coast. Didn't catch any surf perch today, but the dolphins came out to play. Dolphins riding the surf line 30 ft from shore.
Great method to keep your crabs fresh & lively
Invest in a portable aerator pump. I purchased one online for 25 bucks, about the same price as one dungeness crab. Place crabs in a cooler, add enough salt water for the crabs to come up for air. This method will keep them fresh & lively for several days.
Huge whale washes up to shore - Humpback or Fin Whale?
I was out fishing at Seaside State Beach when this whale washes up to shore. At a glance it appears to be a humpback whale. Humpback whales have long pectoral fins, this whale's fins were short. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is most likely a Fin Whale.
The Search for Winter Perch
Surf perch fishing is a lot of fun & is something I do not do enough of. I will start exploring the surf more often to improve my surf fishing skills. Maybe join a surf perch tournament next year. Enjoy the video.
Pickled Bullwhip Kelp - Inspired by OutdoorChefLife
One of my favorite local youtuber (Outdoor Chef Life) posted up a video about sustainable foods featuring kelp. I'm intrigued by the thought of sustainable foods. I came across a stock of bullwhip kelp while crabbing last week & was inspired to try his pickle kelp recipe. I used serrano peppers instead of habanero peppers for my first time but will be experimenting with different types of peppers. In the future I will increase the amount of vinegar to water ratio because I like my pickles sour & slice the kelp more thinly. Enjoy the video.
Crabbing with hoop nets - Halfmoon Bay
Currently we are restricted to only use hoop nets for crabbing due to the migration of humpback whales. Hoop nets are not as effective as crab traps, but it's better than nothing. How did we do with hoop nets?
Late Dungeness Crab Opener
It was very cold & windy in Halfmoon Bay. We had to grind for it, but we managed to catch a few to share with the family. Happy crab hunting everyone.
Hole in the wall - "The Best Sandwiches"
Been hearing about this mom & pop sandwich shop called "The Best Sandwiches" so we had to try it out. We ordered the Torta Cubana (Cuban Pannini) & Torta Mexicana. The Torta Cubana is a must try. The special marinated pork was tender, juicy & balanced nicely with the apricot habanero sauce.
Pod of baby dolphins 40 ft from shore
Spotted a pod of baby dolphins swimming 40 ft from shore. Never realized that they get that close to shore. What an awesome site.
TACO TUESDAYS - Extra Crispy Lingcod Fish Tacos
Tuesdays are always fun when we try to make various types of tacos. My favorite in particular are lingcod fish tacos, twice fried for an extra crispy crunch. Try this method the next time you make tacos. Enjoy the video.
Pumpkin Patch @ Rancho Siempre Verde - Pescadero, CA
Friendly family owned & operated pumpkin patch. For $75 per vehicle with up to 6 people, you will get to pick some pumpkins, cut some flowers, pick some apples, make a wreath & enjoy the farm. Family loved it.
Limon Rotisserie - Peruvian Restaurant Burlingame
We ordered the Cheese empanadas, La Copa Ceviche, Lengua, Polli-Papas & 1/4 dark rotisserie chicken. My kids love the cheese empanadas & Polli-Papas. The ceviche & grilled Lengua over mashed potatoes were my favorites. I would have liked a wider beer selection but had a great dinner.
Pizza Press - Build your own Pizza
Great place to take the kids to build their own pizza (sauce, toppings, etc.). The cheesy garlic bread, habanero sauced wings & selection of craft beers were a few of my favorite things.
How to land a 45" sturgeon, when your net is too small
There is going to be a time in every fisherman's life when you have to improvise. We brought a striper net to go sturgeon fishing in the delta. Long story short, lesson learned!
Emma Prusch Farm Park - San Jose
Great place to take the family for an evening walk to explore the different types of farm animals on site. There is a wide variety of fruit trees that you could learn about from around the world.
Where are the mackerels? Santa Cruz Wharf?
The mackerels are not around Santa Cruz Wharf. Aside from the red tide, sea lions are everywhere. They are on all sides of the wharf barking, diving & splashing. Definitely come by, if you like to watch sea lions goofing around.
