Sandra was beaten to death on July 18, 1980 Also listed was a charge for the rape of a Killeen, Texas woman that perspired just eighteen days previously to Sandra's murder. Micheal would be sentenced for that crime.

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, a freight train derailed in Paradise, Montana, near Highway 135. The derailment occurred on the banks of the Clark Fork River, which is a major tributary of the Columbia River. Some of the cars ended up in the river, raising fears of water contamination and wildlife impact. No injuries were reported, but the cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
