When I was growing up in Southwest Virginia my grandmother and her neighbors grew potatoes in their gardens. Some of my cousins would eat raw potatoes right out of the dirt. If potatoes began growing sprouts we cut them off and boiled the veggie anyway.

I was eating rice two to three times a day. Rice is delicious, inexpensive, and easy to cook and a big part of the vegetarian diet I was trying to follow. The truth is, fear sells, and fear of toxins in everything drives a multimillion-dollar detox industry. Let’s talk about what toxins are and aren’t.
