Snow falling and high wind was a perfect recipe for a school cancellation. So to make the best of the situation, my daughter and I set up a tent in the yard, and put some of my backpacking stuff to the test. We made it through the night just fine, but in the morning I noticed that the tent has some big problems. Wet gear is dangerous when the temps are low, and this tent has had large amounts of condensation inside it every time I’ve used it.

Making your own stuff can be much cheaper than buying store bought gear, and if you are patient and take your time, you can make it to suit your needs better.

Join us on a chilly camping trip at Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest, in southern Illinois. Temperatures got down to 40 degrees, we were a little cold, but still had a great time!

Backpacking season is finally here so we got our paint brushes out and went to work on sealing the seams on the Trekker 3 Tent. Let the Rugged Mountain Gang show you how its done! We also treated the fabric with both a water AND a bug repellent!
