Aurora delays funding youth violence programs
Despite recognizing youths in Aurora get shot almost every day, City Council members delayed funding youth violence programs Monday. As part of its plan to quell youth violence, Aurora plans to give $500,000 to local nonprofits.
Denver police warn teens not to follow new TikTok challenge
(Denver, Colo.) Denver police aren't playing around when it comes to a new teen prank using toy guns. In the "The Orbeez Challenge," which has gone viral on TikTok, teens upload videos of themselves shooting Orbeez balls out of car windows at passersby.

Aurora brings back gang program
(Aurora, Colo.) As much as violence impacts youths in Aurora, the council still can’t agree on what to do about it. A majority of council members who identify as conservatives voted Monday to reinstate the city’s gang prevention program. The previous council, controlled by Democrats, had instead sold the public on a large-scale investment in the city’s youth that would have involved non-profit agencies.

Counselor, parent say Denver schools no longer safe
After eliminating most school resource officers, a Denver East High School counselor says the school district needs a better safety plan. At the Dec. 15 school board meeting, Mario Ortiz told the council that chaos had broken out without the officers. He said he told Denver school board member Tay Anderson in March 2021 that the school district needed a "well-defined safety plan especially in response to getting rid of the (school resource officers) in our buildings.
Despite violent fall, Aurora postpones plan to tackle youth violence
Despite community pressure to help reduce youth violence after three shootings in November that injured at least nine teens and killed one, Aurora City Council Monday night delayed approving additional money for the Aurora Youth Violence Prevention project until city staff answers questions.
