CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Those with eyes for the sky now have more opportunities to stargaze in the Mountain State thanks to a designation from the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA).

NASA has confirmed that the old satellite Rhessi is set to reenter Earth's atmosphere this week. The satellite was launched in 2002 to study the sun, but it was shut down in 2018 due to communication issues. Experts tracking the spacecraft say that the chances of it posing any danger to humans are low, but NASA has not disclosed the reentry location due to lingering uncertainty regarding where and when it may fall.

If you're a fan of celestial events, then you'll be excited to know the Pink Moon is said to occur April 6th 2023. While the Pink Moon isn't actually pink, it represents the first blooms of a wild flower called Phlox Subulata. It will still be a beautiful sight to see.

Most of Earth’s residents will get a chance to view five of the galaxy’s planets in a cosmic alignment happening this week. Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the rarely seen Uranus will all be potentially visible in the night sky to us insignificant Earthlings, Space.com reported. However, the number of planets you see will be dependent on the weather and your location.

The spot in northern PA offers a view of exceptionally dark skies. The aurora borealis, or the northern lights, as the phenomenon is also called, made a surprise appearance in the skies of Pennsylvania in late February. People as far south as central PA captured photos of the aurora, and photographer and physicist Sujay Singh created a time-lapse video he caught in Sullivan County.
