Site of retired Iowa nuclear plant to become state’s biggest solar farm

Alliant Energy has announced its plan for a solar energy and storage facility at the site of the former Duane Arnold nuclear power plant near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The plan awaits approval from the County’s Technical Review Committee which is scheduled to meet on May 19.
Maryland to build a two hundred megawatt solar farm on a former coal mine
The project will be located on approximately 1,100 acres on the Vindex/Arch Coal mining site north of the town of Kitzmiller in Garrett County, Maryland. Construction works on the project are scheduled to begin later this year. Once built, the project will produce enough energy to power the equivalent of more than 30,000 average Maryland homes.
Kentucky to build a two hundred megawatt (MW) solar farm on a former coal mine employing displaced coal workers
The project will be located on approximately 1,200 acres on the old Martiki mine site in Martin County, near the Kentucky-West Virginia border. It will be interconnected with Kentucky Power’s 138-kV Inez Substation. Once built, the project will be the largest solar project in Kentucky and will produce enough energy to power the equivalent of more than 33,000 Kentucky homes.
