To Boat An American Shad, An Angler Must Be Quick With The Net.
American Shad have soft mouths. When fishing for them from a boat, an angler must be quick with the net; otherwise, the hook will rip off their soft mouths. Here is an example of what happens when an angler is slow to net the shad. If you like this video, please follow, like and share it. I am grateful for your support. Have a blessed day.
American Shad Are Fierce Fighting Fish On Light Gear
Although small, American Shad are amazing fighters. They cannot be landed quickly because they have soft mouths. If an angler uses too much force the hook will rip right out of their lips. Thus, using light fishing gear and less drag are some of the keys to landing an American Shad. When hooked, they will do all kinds of flips and turns. Thus, it will be a constant tug of war between an angler and the fish until it is in the net! I hope you enjoy this clip of my very first American Shad for 2022 from the Sacramento River, CA. How to Make a Poor Man's Sabiki Rig to Catch a Poor Man's Tarpon
American Shad Sabiki Rig is one of the many ways to catch shad in the Sacramento River from a boat. Unfortunately, during peak shad season, most local shops run out of the supply. In this video, I show you how to make your own quick and easy Sabiki Rig for catching American Shad also known as Poor Man's Tarpon. I used Tay's Famous Hair Jigs last year, and those jigs work! He is a local lure maker and can use your support. Give him a call if you want to support his business. If you enjoy this video, please follow, like and share it. Have a blessed day.
To Catch American Shad in the Sacramento River, Find the Seam
Da Captain and I revisited Rocky Shore on the Sacramento River for more American shad action. Most anglers know that American Shad travel in a very narrow straight line called the "seam." To have a successful shad fishing trip from a boat, anglers must be willing to relocate multiple times to find that seam. We fished the outgoing tide at 2:30 PM on Friday, April 8, 2022. However, we did not find the seam until around 5 PM. But when we did, it appeared like the shad won't stop biting. It is still early in the season, but we are elated to boat more shad from this trip. Thank you for watching.

My First 2022 American Shad Fishing Trip in the Sacramento River
Every year, local anglers in Sacramento anxiously await the return of the American Shad. These fish are also known as poor man's tarpon. Rightly named because of their fantastic fight on light fishing gear. The shad take-downs are amazing. They have soft mouths, so they can not be horsed in. Thus, boating them is so much fun. This is our first shad fishing trip of 2022. Although it is early in the season, we were blessed with multiple take-downs. We missed some and landed some. Some of our viewers reported catching as well. One boat reportedly caught twenty. I hope you enjoy this video. Please follow, like and share it with your family and friends. Thank you and have a blessed day. For those interested in the rigs that I use to catch American Shad, last year, I uploaded a video on NewsBreak (4/26/2021) that shows you how to make your own. The video is titled: "PROVEN Rig to catch AMERICAN SHAD from a boat | SACRAMENTO RIVER FISHING How To"

How to Catch Shad from Shore | 5 Step Guide
How to catch shad from shore! Welcome to my first tutorial. I have been meaning to do more tutorials for my YouTube channel so I figured I’d start here. Catching shad from shore can be tricky, so you need to know the most important things about doing it. Shad do not feed when moving upriver so you are looking for a reaction bite. There is a wide variety of lures you can try for shad, but the best shad lures tend to be something small and flashy. Catching shad from shore can have you thinking you are in the wrong spot if you are not adapting correctly. Shad fishing takes a method to find where the fish are, what they’re biting, and how to catch them over and over. There are many times you can find yourself out fishing most if not all people on the bank if you are doing your homework on the shad. Finding them in the water column is the most important step, but I believe they are all equally important.
