Rare Salmon caught fishing at the Santa Cruz Wharf! Catch and Release!

Arctic char in Maine, also known as Blueback trout, are one of the rarest fish species in North America. While targeting them in a remote North Woods pond, I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of these rare fish.

I mentioned in my article about Fly Fishing Rainbow Trout in Lakes that Washington State probably has thousands of lakes. My guess is it at least has hundreds of rivers. And I would also guess that all of them have at least some species of trout. With the exception of Steelhead (essentially a huge ocean going Rainbow Trout), the techniques to catch one species of trout on a fly rod won’t be all that different to catch another. The areas where the fish hold might be different, but what they feed on usually doesn’t change too much.

While fishing the shores of Lake Superior in my buddies boat, I hooked into a huge coaster brook trout!

When I lived in Bellingham while attending Western Washington University I spent a lot of time fly fishing the Nooksack River. I spent most of my time on the South Fork, but I also fished the North Fork sometimes as well.
