We Found GLOWING STONES on the Beaches of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula!
This is day 2 of a video I posted a while back searching for fluorescent sodalite on the beaches of Lake Superior! These are syenite rocks with sodalite in them - a mineral that glows bright orange under a 365 nanometer UV light. I can tell you with confidence there isn't many things more exciting than shining the UV light on the beach at night and seeing that fiery orange glow staring back at you! I could never get tired of seeing that!
It Is Amazing to See What's Inside These 20 Million Year Old Fossil Oysters! Florida Rockhounding!
I was very excited about this, as it's something I have never done before! About 5 or 6 years ago I stumbled upon a location where a clay bank in the river had exposed some HUGE fossil oysters. Something to note is that this location is around 80+ miles from the current coastline. It's crazy to think about this area once being a tidal creek or shallow saltwater marsh full of oysters! During fossilization, these oysters "agatized" meaning the inside was replaced with beautiful agate similar to what you could find in geodes. Though these were not geodes, they still had incredible colors and patterns inside of them once we cut them open!
