AI Chatbot Offers Immediate Support for Women Struggling with Postpartum Depression
The University of Texas is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative that aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) to assist women dealing with postpartum depression. In collaboration with Postpartum Support International, a nonprofit organization, researchers are testing an AI-powered chatbot that will be made available through a free app. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in every eight women experiences symptoms of postpartum depression or perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). With a glaring shortage of mental health providers, particularly in rural areas, this initiative couldn't come at a more critical time.
