Denver settles alleged jail abuse case for $40,000
(Denver, Colo.) The City and County of Denver will pay a jail inmate $40,000 to settle claims stemming from alleged mistreatment. Edward Lee Hicks suffers from hearing loss, PTSD, intermittent explosive disorder, and more, according to court records on Casemine. "He contends that he suffers from a severe hearing loss disability, which makes it difficult for him to understand what others are saying and causes him to "exaggerate (his) gestures to be understood," according to a summary statement.
Minneapolis Bans No-Knock Warrants After Killing of Amir Locke
The Minneapolis police department is no longer permitted to raid residences without first declaring their presence, such as by knocking on the door, to the occupants. The mayor of a city in the United States has chosen to temporarily prohibit the use of so-called no-knock warrants. The cause for this is the killing of Amir Locke, who was shot and killed by police in his own house on Wednesday night.
