What lucky foods and recipes to prepare for the NEW YEAR? Many families have traditions and this is ours. On New Years Eve, we prepare 13 round fruits and 13 dishes. The rationale for 13 is one for each month plus one extra for abundance. Another way to look at it is through the numbers - 13 + 13 = 26, 2 + 6 = 8, and 8 is a lucky number. In terms of protein, we only prepare pork and seafood. No poultry because they scratch backwards and no beef because cows usually move very slow.
