Birth of African Lion Cub Celebrated at Knoxville Zoo as Wild Lions Remain Endangered
Officials at Zoo Knoxville announced the birth of a third cub to Upepo and Amara, endangered African lions. The lion cub was actually born on June 16, 2022. Zoo Knoxville reports Amara is nursing and caring for the healthy cub. The cub's mother was helped by the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, which provided emergency surgery after the cub's birth. Amara had a stillborn cub in her birth canal and was diagnosed with acute renal insufficiency.
