West Nile Threat in Wyoming: Equine Neurologic Cases & Implications
The Wyoming Livestock Board Animal Health recently reported a concerning rise in equine neurologic cases, with a total of 50 incidents, one of which originated from Texas. These horses displayed symptoms such as posterior paresis, ataxia, and either sternal or lateral recumbency. A significant observation is that these affected horses predominantly lacked proper vaccination. Out of the 50 cases, 46 underwent diagnostic tests for neurologic diseases. The results revealed that 30 horses tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV), 14 were negative, and 2 are still awaiting results. Fremont County reported the majority of these cases. The remaining 4 horses, although not tested, exhibited clinical signs consistent with the outbreak.
Two Horses Tragically Killed in Hopewell Road Collision
EVESHAM, NJ — A somber incident occurred on September 10, 2023, around 10:30 AM, as traffic and patrol units swiftly responded to the 100 block of Hopewell Road following reports of a single-vehicle motor collision involving a towed horse trailer. The incident unfolded when a horse trailer, transporting two horses, became detached from the vehicle towing it, causing the trailer to veer off the roadway and collide with a tree. Tragically, this collision resulted in the loss of both horses that were inside the trailer. Fortunately, no occupants of the towing vehicle sustained injuries during the accident. As a result of the collision, a section of Hopewell Road had to be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of both responders and the public. Members of the Evesham Police Traffic Bureau have since initiated an investigation into the cause of this heartbreaking incident. The circumstances leading to the detachment of the horse trailer from the towing vehicle are currently under scrutiny. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this collision to come forward and assist in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
