Plump, oily, and satisfying, with a flavor that’s equal parts fish, smoke, and nuttiness, along with just a hint of brine, kippers have made a roaring comeback over the last decade or so – and for good reason. They’re delicious, and make for a great and hardy breakfast, or a pleasantly light lunch.

The herring spawn has arrived in the San Francisco Bay!

Today Zach talks about what the fishing has been like in the San Fransisco bay!

This a recent fishing trip we took to try and catch some herring for later this year to use as bait!

The bait is so thick in Santa Cruz, I caught 2 croakers on two hooks with a krippled herring setup. Not the targeted species I was looking for, still waiting for the squid & mackerel to show up.

In this video, we went halibut fishing in February in the San Francisco Bay. We started off trolling frozen herring but we ran into a herring spawn so we switched to drifting live herring. It was very early in the season, so we weren't expecting much, but we caught 1 keeper and 3 shakers!

This time of year, millions of pacific herring flood the Bay to lay their eggs. This night the spawn happened in Tiburon. I was late, and missed the fish, but it was an incredible sight to see the birds, sea lions, and anglers all trying to catch herring.
