Whippany-Passaic Rivers' Flood Mitigation Project Takes Flight
WHIPPANY, NJ – The inaugural phase of the Whippany-Passaic Rivers’ Flood Mitigation project is set to launch today, May 18, 2023. A low-flying helicopter will perform a comprehensive field investigation over approximately a 12-mile corridor, which includes sections of the Whippany and Passaic Rivers, as well as their tributaries.

In an incident involving an AH-64 Apache, no soldiers were reported to have been killed. However, the aircrew was sent to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Officials have confirmed that one soldier was released the following morning, while another remains in the hospital. Personnel from the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington have been assigned to the operation.
