Most people have heard about the Apache warrior known as Geronimo. He was a legendary Native American chief who was held as a prisoner of war for over two decades at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, until he died in 1909. He is known as one of the last great warriors to surrender to United States forces.

. Geronimo was born June 16, 1829 , and his Indian name translates to one who yawns . He started his life as a medicine man but after tragic events became a warrior chief. The apache war was the longest running war in the US at 25 years . At one time the US spent over one million dollars and 1000 men to track him down . Geronimo finally surrendered and was put on a reservation the rest of his life and he was never allowed back in Arizona .
