TEXAS - How Many Alligators Live in Texas? According to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department estimates, an estimated total population of 400,000 to 500,000 alligators inhabit Texas. Researchers conduct surveys of their territories and nest counts to ascertain these estimates.

FLORIDA - Estimates suggest an estimated five million American alligators inhabit the southeastern United States; about 1.25 million reside in Florida alone. They are often found in freshwater wetland areas. Still, they may also be found in brackish water habitats and saltwater environments, where these aquatic predators reside. Their primary function is maintaining ecological equilibrium within their habitat, feeding on marine organisms from both communities.

A Deltona, Florida homeowner, who wished not to be identified, had just let his chocolate lab Winston out into his backyard. He looked outside and noticed his dog sniffing around in the backyard which was normal. Then, when we went outside, he suddenly noticed a large alligator near the fence which his dog was inspecting. Just as he spotted it, the gator then lunged for his dog, getting ahold of it. The man ran to get his gun.

Last year, for the fourth annual Gator Nation Giving Day, thousands of University of Florida alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and families set a UF record during Stand Up & Holler.

I'm starting to think gators are just an entertainment buzz and don't actually exist in Florida.

An 11-foot gator had taken up residence in the master bedroom suite!

A hunter from Texas - Mike Smith, aged 57 - was taking a hunting trip in Florida recently, when he managed to bag a legendary local gator. Smith was hunting between Ft. Myers and Lake Okeechobee on March 7.
