Opinion: Women Are Constantly Pitted Against Each Other
For the past year or so I’ve been part of 2–3 groups of women’s chat rooms or text/email groups. Most of them are relevant to writing, others are relevant to advocacy for women.
Opinion: Why Women Say, “I Have a Boyfriend,” When They Don’t
We don’t like to lie, but sometimes it's a matter of safety. I recently read an article that annoyed me. After reading the article, I closed my laptop with disgust, and I regret that I didn’t bookmark the page so I could share the link here.
Opinion: Oprah Was Called The N-Word on Live TV Once
A recently resurfaced clip once again shows what Black people often endure to gain success. There are 7.753 billion people in the world... 2,700 of those people are billionaires...
3 books that made me cry and feel privileged at the same time
Books have always been a very important part of my life. My love relation with books started as soon as I could read. When other kids my age were busy playing dollhouses and other games, I preferred sitting in a quiet corner with anything I could read. I just got immersed in the magical world of books and felt connected to the characters.
Opinion: Dating as an Ambitious, Opinionated Woman
Society wants to laud the rise of strong women, but we’re not quite there. Even though I always knew in my heart I would never want kids, there was a period of time in my 20s when I let my boyfriend convince me otherwise.
Plan B and Birth Control are Being Offered at Steep Discounts Thanks to Mark Cuban's Online Pharmacy
Not all billionaires are created equal. Take Mark Cuban and Elon Musk, for example. While Elon Musk is focusing his energy on taking over Twitter to get back at the platform for the limitations of free speech once leveraged against him, Mark Cuban is working quietly behind the scenes to create access to affordable medication for all.
Virginia governor seeks to ban abortion after 15 weeks following SCOTUS ruling
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has plans to ban abortion after 15 weeks following the historic Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and thus removing the constitutional right to abortion. However, he will face opposition from the Democratic-controlled Virginia Senate, where Democrats hold a 21-19 advantage (with one Democrat supportive of anti-abortion legislation).
Multiple lawsuits challenge Florida 15-week abortion ban
Following the Supreme Court’s landmark decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Florida is set to follow other Republican-controlled states by placing further restrictions on abortion. Florida currently allows abortion up to viability (about 24 weeks), but in April, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill prohibiting abortions after 15 weeks.
Certain States Already Banned Abortions - Hours after Supreme Court Overturned Roe v. Wade
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark!... Except we're talking about the USA and not Denmark, and what's rotten is the Supreme Court's decision to end women's rights to abortions that have been granted by the iron-clad Roe v. Wave court ruling in 1973. Well, it turns out it wasn't iron-clad after all. Once the supreme court judges announced their decision on Friday, multiple states moved to ban abortions only hours after the ruling came into effect. Here are those states.
Abusive Coaching in Collegiate Athletics
Unless you were there, it may be hard to understand how much influence our coaches exerted over us. I mean, we were kids. Eighteen year-olds leaving home for the first time, diving into a sea of changes and trying to compete athletically at an elite level. "Abuse" is a strong word, one I hesitated to use until I realized that the insidious and duplicitous nature of abuse often gaslights victims into accepting it, thereby perpetuating its existence.
Some women of the Bible who changed history
I have always treasured the stories of biblical characters and their influence on the course of ancient — and subsequently modern and future — history. As a student of history, I am also surprised by the omnipresence of women throughout the Scriptures and their integral connections to the overarching plot lines and themes.
Fear, Food, & Feminism
Many eating disorders, mine included, begin with an obsession with health or nutrition. In recent years, a condition known as orthorexia, has become widely recognized in the medical community. People with orthorexia often adhere to strict food rules, cut out entire food groups, eat within certain time windows, or become increasingly obsessed with the idea of “clean” foods. It’s worth mentioning that “clean” foods are not real—they are a fallacy and this fact is widely agreed upon by registered dietitians, doctors, and health experts.
Quality Education in relation to Gender Equality in Mexico
Because of a lack of support in most Mexican societies, many young women and girls must drop out of school early. Among a select few countries, Mexico still has a gender gap in the education system.
Opinion: Overturning “Roe v. Wade” Ends Liberal Democracy In America
Last week, Politico shared a leaked draft of an opinion of Supreme Court Justice Alito on the overturning of “Roe v. Wade”, the federal right of abortion in the United States.
Idaho politician convicted of sexually assaulting intern
On Friday, former Republican legislator Idaho Aaron von Ehlinger was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman who once served as his intern. Ehlinger announced his resignation in 2021, shortly after his alleged prurient behavior had come to light.
Opinion: I was always proud that I wasn't a "typical" girl; until I realized it was the most misogynistic thought
I was always a little different from other girls in my class. While most of them liked to talk about clothes and fashion, I wanted to talk about books and the latest gadgets. I was always a voracious reader so wanted to discuss amazing things described in them(this was the pre-internet era when we relied on books for all our knowledge). But most of the girls couldn’t share my interests.
How We, as Women, Give Away Our Power
Gwen was a working comedian when I first met her. She wasn’t famous yet, but it seemed that she was on her way there. I had never met an artist who pushed herself so hard. No matter how tired she was, she showed up at every audition and never said no to any possible opportunity. For her, that just might be the one that would launch her. When Gwen wasn’t auditioning, networking, or exercising (to keep herself camera-ready), she was writing material, making videos, and submitting them. And when she wasn’t doing that, she was waitressing and bartending to pay rent on her tiny studio apartment in a bad neighborhood.
Opinion: Women’s 9 Months In, 9 Months Out Posts Are Problematic
There is a Facebook/Instagram trend happening among moms. It’s the 9 months in and 9 months out side-by-side photos. Basically, the mom posts a photo of her 9-month pregnancy and then a photo holding her baby at 9 months old.
Opinion: Why No One Noticed That Time Jim Carrey Assaulted Alicia Silverstone At An Award Show
I don’t know who needs to hear this — but kissing someone againt their will is assault. Tell your friends. Tell your sons. Tell the award show producers. I nodded in shared disgust last week seeing that Jim Carrey spoke out about Will Smith’s slap. I agreed it was a problematic moment in history. Good for you, Jim Carrey, I thought.
