What's at Descanso Gardens Los Angeles?
In Today's Kim's Adventure we're at the Descanso Gardens in La Canada California. In 1937, newspaper magnate E. Manchester Boddy, owner of the Los Angeles Illustrated Daily News, purchased a 165-acre tract in the San Rafael Hills. He named his estate Rancho del Descanso. In 1953, Boddy sold his estate to Los Angeles County, and a vigorous volunteer group sprang up to improve and shape the Descanso Gardens. They're known as the Descanso Gardens Guild and are responsible for managing the property to this day. In 2004 Descanso earned museum accreditation and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
Final Nights for Viewing Holiday Lights Also Can Bring Big Discounts on Family Fun
Once Santa has headed back to the North Pole, there's still time to view holiday lights -- and it may even mean big discounts to ease the post-Christmas fun. In some locations, the holiday fun extends beyond the New Year.

Beautiful Urban Waterfall Everyone Has to Visit
I wish I took more pictures/video but at the same time it was a much needed time to be present with our kids. We were able to enjoy and relax in our favorite spot at the LA Arboretum while the boys play with other homeschool kids. Did you know LA arboretum have a FREE day? It's every 3rd Tuesday of the month. Just grab your free tickets on their website. A little tip if you are far from the arboretum... leave the house after 9am traffic is lighter and leave the arboretum by 2pm before LA traffic begins.

Woodstock's Downtown Scarecrows Provide Fun (and a few Frights) for the Family
Woodstock's annual scarecrow invasion features more than 100 locally-produced scarecrows lining Main Street, in the downtown park, and beyond. We made our annual visit in mid-October to enjoy the haunting hijinks. Like the more famous Woodstock of 1960s notoriety, Woodstock, GA, comes with its own vibe. The once sleepy railroad trackside town has transformed its downtown to a near-perfect blend of historic preservation, contemporary shopping, fun and fantastic food options and planned growth. Our two-minute video features the highlights of our 2022 visit. We also did an accompanying Newsbreak post with more information on the event and the charming downtown. You'll find it here on Newsbreak: https://bit.ly/woodstock-scarecrows
Our First Time at Soak City
In Today's Kim's Adventure we head out to Soak City Knott's Berry Farm. Knott's Soak City is a seasonal water park owned and operated by Cedar Fair. It first opened in Buena Park on June 17th, 2000 under the name of Soak City U.S.A. On this day we got to rent a private cabana which was really useful for our kids to come back to and rest between rides. This was our first time going to a water park and I have to say that it was really fun. The scariest one I went on was the Aqua Launch which drops you from a chamber. Anyways we had a blast and the kids can't wait to go back!
This Chattanooga Ice Cream Shoppe May Be the Coolest Show on Earth
PT Barnum once branded his famous circus as the greatest show on earth, and that tagline became one of the enduring legacies of the traveling extravaganza. While Chattanooga's Ice Cream Show doesn't necessarily advertise itself in the same braggadocios manner, we definitely would proclaim it as the coolest show in the city based on the extraordinary array of toppings and mix-ins available to jazz up the frozen delights.
What to Expect at Pretend City
Pretend City is a nonprofit children's museum and features 17 interactive exhibits designed as a small interconnected city. On August 30th 2009, Pretend City Opened and was awarded the Possible Dream grant the following year. It aims to build better brains through purposeful play, hands on learning and most importantly gives the little ones a chance to burn off their energy so the parents can have some time to work on their marriage. Today we're here for their special exhibit called Dino's in the City. The kids had such a great time they didn't even want to leave, we had to literally drag them out.
We Go Searching for Diamonds, Dinosaurs and Exciting Modern Discoveries at Tellus Science Museum
At the insistence of our grandsons, we made a hot summer day visit to the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, GA. We'll give you a look at many of the exhibits in under three minutes. We discovered the wonders of the Tellus Science Museum on our very first house hunting trip to NW Georgia. And we’ve been going back ever since, maintaining our Grandparents-Plus annual membership for free admission for our most-frequent visitors, free show tickets, discounted admission for others and endless fun. Located just north of Cartersville directly off I-75, the Tellus Science Museum often may be overlooked by families considering their indoor outing options. That’s understandable with Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium, the Fernbank Museum, College Football Hall of Fame, World of Coca-Cola and others as more-popular and well-known destinations. While we enjoy those places, we much prefer bypassing the big crowds and higher prices for the friendly confines and peaceful exhibits at Tellus.
These Georgia State Parks with Smooth Paved Trails Make It Easier for All to Enjoy The State's Natural Wonders
At Amicalola State Park, a rubberized trail suitable for walking and assistive wheeled devices including wheelchairs, walkers and strollers extends .25 miles to the mid-falls bridge spanning the plunging falls. It's the perfect location for gazing at the full length of Georgia's tallest waterfall, which cascades more than 700 feet from the top of Little Amicalola Creek into a small lake below.
