Asian carp, native to China, was first introduced into the United States in the early 1960s and 70s as a method to control nuisance algal blooms. By the 1980s, the species had escaped aquaculture ponds and spread into local water bodies. Researchers fear an invasion of the Great Lakes would threaten its $7 billion fishing industry as the carps compete with native fish species for food.
Shallow Arizona Canal Fishing for Big Fish!
I am loving this Arizona canal fishing! This day me and the wife were in search of fish along the canal. We had tried a few different spots before this one, so we were ready to start catching fish. Canal carp is what we ended up with! First cast with bread balls we end up hooking up! The fight for these canal carp is always good on 4 lb test. It did not take long before another fish bit the bait. We ended up losing it though. These Arizona carp are so common in these canals, it is hard not to catch them. After I had some luck, I decided to get wifey on her first carp ever. Not long after casting into the water, she hooked up on a nice 12lb carp. All of these fish were safely released back into the canal. That was her first fish of Arizona! You never know what you are going to catch canal fishing in Arizona. The srp canals are home to so many different species. Grass carp are protected though, so it is important you release them if caught. I am not going to lie, I am loving the Ariz
