It was abandoned in the 1890's, but Walter Knott (from Knott's Berry Farm) purchased the land in the 1950's. He restored almost all the original buildings before donating the property back to the county. Now, Calico is a historical landmark and open to public to enjoy the attractions, restaurants, shops, campsite and more.
