Steampunk, Horror, Romance--Multi-Genre Author Shares Her Take
The days of a pen name being an absolute swim or sink necessity for authors has become--well, murky. While for marketing's sake a pen name can still be a wise choice for many authors, some popular authors (see the late, great Rachel Caine as well as the beloved Darynda Jones) have tossed aside the norm, by using the name recognition and fan base gained in one genre to breathe life into their newest endeavors. Some are more subtle--see Faith Hunter's shift from what has been called the OG of urban fantasy with her Jane Yellowrock series to her latest series, Junkyard Cats, a dystopian scifi; or the more drastic--see Darynda Jones' shift from her urban fantasy/paranormal women's fiction Charlie Davidson series to her straight up mystery Sunshine Vicram series.
