FDA proposes changes to blood donation restrictions: Equality for gay and bisexual men in sight
SILVER SPRING, MD. - The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced proposed changes to the nation's policy on blood donations, which could finally level the playing field for gay and bisexual men who have long been denied the right to donate.
USF Blood Drive on 1/24
The University of Saint Francis (USF) will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, January 24th from 1 PM to 6 PM CST. This blood drive is sponsored by the American Red Cross, so there should not be any issues in regards to blood donation procedures. The blood drive will be held at the USF Assembly Hall Gymnasium located at 1550 Plainfield Road (US Route 30) in Joliet.

PHOENIX, AZ. - Arizona's blood supply is at critically low levels, with the nonprofit community blood provider Vitalant urging residents of all blood types to give donations. This comes as many organizations are shifting to remote work, causing a decline in businesses hosting their blood drives. According to Sue Thew, communications manager for Vitalant Arizona, it takes about 600 blood donors daily to keep up with Arizona's blood supply.

"The Food and Drug Administration has updated its policies in recent years but discriminatory deferral policies that categorically restrict donations from men who have sex with men remain in place," the proclamation states.
