Through simple moments and complex emotions, universal humanity is revealed and woven together with poetry, music, and dance. Written and directed by Daughtry, Founder of Art Prevails Project, and features some of South Florida’s finest talent. “The Happening: A Theatrical Mixtape, Volume IV: Black Like He is a journey filled with joy, struggle, love, and truth.

Available October 28th, 2022 as theater on Vimeo,Merchants of Venice tells the story of the competitive relationships between Miami and Fort Lauderdale tailors, female tea room owners, and club proprietors in the 1930s, providing rich content rivaling the Shakespearean plot set in 16th-century Venice. Instead of religious conflicts, Merchants explores inter-generation disagreements about how to address civil rights and opportunities within the Black community.

In the play Seeking a young musician’s quest for independence leads him to discover how instrumental his family’s past is to him in finding his future. This presentation will be a staged reading of a new play by Darius Daughtry, founder of the Art Prevails Project, and will have a chat back after each reading with an opportunity for the audience to give feedback.

‘Merchants of Venice’ A Twist On A Classic Will Feature A South Florida Cast of Color And Costumes By The Miami Fashion Institute. You may be familiar with William Shakespeare’s Play The Merchant of Venice. It’s a 16th-century play in which a merchant in Venice named Antonio defaults on a large loan provided by a Jewish moneylender, Shylock. It is believed to have been written between 1596 and 1599.
