"Albany Bulb, an urban artist paradise" - Part 2
Celebrating and Protecting the Urban Wild at the Albany Bulb The Albany Bulb is a former construction debris landfill on San Francisco Bay where people have been making informal outdoor sculptures and paintings for decades. It's home to 150 species of birds, huge trees, wildflowers, amazing views, and lots of walking trails. Love the Bulb is a community-based non-profit organization devoted to protecting the spirit and stories of this unique pile of rubble. We present workshops and events including theater, dance, music and participatory art, as well as stewardship and environmental education activities. We advocate to protect this very necessary space for the imagination and to preserve it as a uniquely Bay Area cultural zone.

Redwood Valley Railway Steam Train ride in Tilden Park, Berkeley
What a great little steam train ride this is. All the engines are hand made on site in Berkeley. I take you on a full tour of this wonderful affordable train ride through the redwoods. The Redwood Valley Railway was created by Erich Thomsen, in the 1950s. After running a much smaller railroad closer to the center of Tilden Park, Thomsen asked for a larger plot of land on the northeast end of Tilden, not far from an underground military bunker and 90mm antiaircraft gun on the hill. Erich Thomsen and his crew laid down more than a mile of 15-inch gauge railway track, and 800 redwood trees were planted. A tunnel and buildings with authentic early 1900s German architecture were created. Thomsen died in 1995, but he left a small army of acolytes, who continue his mission.
