I Bet My Woodpile Is Different Than Yours | Meeting The Homestead Hens
I named this hen "Woodpile". She loves to check for bugs on the ground under the wood when I pick it up and anytime a piece is stacked. She's fun to have around. I only wish she would actually help with the wood itself.
The Hottest Bay Area Eco Trend? Chickencycling
You’ve heard of recycling. You’ve heard of upcycling. But there’s a hot new eco-trend on the rise: chickencycling. Chickencycling is recycling food scraps by feeding them to chickens instead of composting them or throwing them away.
Realizing What Chickens Do For Us | Chicken Chores On A Chilly Morning

DIY Blackberry Trellis | Homestead Foraging | Backyard Chickens
While getting the garden intruder out this morning, I saw that my blackberries were ready to be picked. I needed to get out there fast, or the chickens would get them all. Picking was easy after I DIY'd the trellis they are on. The framework was made out of a few small trees I cut down and a few scrap boards. I will save the berries in the freezer until I get enough to bake. Enjoy!
Animals Caught On Game Camera | Surveillance Of The Chicken Coop
We were losing chicken feed pretty quickly overnight, and considering chickens don't eat at night, we figured we had something coming in to eat it. We caught Archie and Edith, the resident raccoons getting into the feed. No chickens were harmed. They are locked up tight every night. Adorable Baby Chicks Hanging Out With Momma | How Many Chicks Did We Get?
It's that time of year when chickens want to be mommas. I ended up with two broody chickens at the same time, and they sat on eggs for 21 days. Just the right amount of time to have eggs hatch. How many did this chicken end up with? It is so fun having babies on the homestead.
Spring Garden Prep | Homestead Update | Kubota Tractor At Work
We are removing the fence to the garden and using the Kubota to take out the compost. It is too new to have in the garden, it may burn the plants. I bought mulch at Home Depot to keep down the weeds between the garden beds and make it look nicer. I purchased new gravity water cups from Amazon for the chickens last year, and they work greatVisitedng with the animals a bit, and we got next winter's wood on property to dry and then put away. Enjoy!

Off-Grid Homestead Shenanigans | Backyard Chickens & Bunny While cleaning up snow, I hung out with the chickens and bunny for a bit. It was a cold but beautiful day. I couldn't resist filming as much as I could. Enjoy!
