Others were also awarded at the 65th Annual New Jersey Breeders Awards Celebration at the Horse Park of New Jersey to kick off the Month of the Horse in the state. The 2022 Governor’s Award for Horseperson of the Year was awarded to Dr. Carey Williams, who has served the industry with Rutgers University since 2003.

Washington County-Johnson City EMS is the recipient of the 2022 State Star of Life Award. The Northeast Tennessee ambulance and rescue agency responded to an auto accident nearly a year ago where David Keller's vehicle left the roadway and was caught by a tree to keep it from careening down a 65 foot embankment. The EMS and Rescue team worked tirelessly to extricate Keller using high angle and vehicle rescue techniques in one of the most unusual situations faced in Tennessee.

The responders were recognized along with Taylor Skinner, the survivor of a motor vehicle accident requiring the crews to work together to save the man.

The University of La Verne’s Campus Times student newspaper won a Silver Crown for overall excellence for Newspaper/Online Hybrids from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), placing the publication among the top 11 college news outlets in the nation for the 2020-2021 academic year.
State Arts Council Grants Nearly $1 Million To NJ Artists
The New Jersey State Council on the Arts held its first meeting of 2022 on February 22 where nearly $1 million was awarded to 85 New Jersey artists. The money comes from a part of the Council’s Individual Artist Fellowship Program in partner with Mid Atlantic Arts. The fellowships are competitive annual awards for NJ artists in 12 rotating disciplines. This year artists applied for awards in the categories of digital/electronic, film/video, painting, printmaking/works on paper/book arts, and prose.

2022 TMSAA Class A Area 16 Basketball Tournament Results
Obion County Central High School was the host of yet another local basketball tournament. The 2022 TMSAA Class A Area 16 Basketball Tournament began Saturday, the 22nd, and ended Monday night, the 24th. The two-day tournament ended Monday night with the Lake Road Lady Generals winning their game against the Ridgemont Lady Mustangs, 25-11, and the Hillcrest Cougars winning their game against the South Fulton Red Devils, 53-26. Obion County Middle School Tournament Results
Obion County Central High School was the host this year for the 2022 Obion County Middle School Tournament for Obion County Schools. The tournament, which began last Thursday, January 13th, ended Monday night, January 17th. On Monday night, the Lake Road Lady Generals played the Ridgemont Lady Mustangs and won their championship game with a score of 20-18. The Hillcrest Cougars played the South Fulton Red Devils and won their championship game with a score of 44-30.
