Is law enforcement closer to solving the cold case murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman?
On January 13, 1996, nine-year-old Amber and her five-year-old brother, Ricky, visited their grandparents with their mother, Donna, in Arlington, Texas. Winter weather in the Lone Star State is often fickle--ranging from warm and sunny one day to freezing and rainy the next. This particular afternoon offered cloudless blue skies and temps in the seventies. Amber and Ricky wanted to ride their bikes. Donna told her kids to stay on the block.
Do You Know the Backstory of the Amber Alert?
Amber Alert is a system used to quickly notify the public about child abductions and mobilize the community to assist in locating and recovering missing children. The system is named after Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas, in 1996.
"Raising Awareness: The Reality of Endangered Missing Persons"
Every year, thousands of children are reported missing and yet to be found. Harmony Montgomery, who went missing in November 2021 when she was 5 years old, is one of them. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), there were 365,348 reports of missing children added to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) in 2020. This number represents the number of reports, meaning that if a child went missing more than once, they would be counted more than once.

Texas Adds Two New Alerts, For A Total of Eight
Would you dismiss an alert for someone you love? Please don't silence them so quickly. Did you know there are alerts besides AMBER, Blue, and Silver?. We have all been standing in line at the grocery store, sitting in church, or in a work meeting when everyone’s phone simultaneously goes off due to a safety alert. I know some of my fellow geeks disable them; however, it is a public service that should not be ignored. They are life saving. No matter what time or how seemingly inconvenient it is when mine goes off, I think of little Amber Hagerman who inspired them.
