A number of former foster children will receive a guaranteed monthly stipend for the next 18 months in the California counties of Ventura and San Francisco. This is the first ever launch of a new pilot program created through the Department of Social Services, in conjunction with these counties to provide support through regular cash payments of $1000 to $1200 each month to 150 deserving former foster children.

Love Local Sunday Takes Off with STEAM Experiences
On the last Love Local Sunday event of the season, SteamRocket, brought together science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) enthusiasts for a fun-filled day of interactive activities. The event took place on April 30th at Southwest Church in Indian Wells. It featured a variety of challenges, including Ping-Pong Pick-Up and Build-a-Boat, as well as hands-on workshops showcasing Minecraft coding and MakeCode micro:bit.

Rotary Club of Stone Mountain hosts District Governor George Granade
The Rotary Club of Stone Mountain, in DeKalb County, GA, hosted District 6900 Governor George Granade at their regular meeting, held Tuesday, January 17, 2023. The club, which has labeled itself “the friendliest club in the world,“ provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for those who attend their meetings; and is always looking to add to their membership. The meeting began with a welcome by Past President Cynthia Dorsey- Edwards, who also led the “moment of inspiration,” honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She then introduced Johnathan Clark, of the Rotary Club of Tucker, who talked about the Rotary Means Business Program. After much anticipation, Assistant Governor (and member of the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain), Chris Brand, introduced Rotary District 6900 Governor George Granade.
DougCo Youth Initiative helps kids with truancy issues finish school
(Douglas County, Colo.) The Douglas County Youth Initiative is a small but mighty team dedicated to helping kids across the county overcome truancy issues. Students become truant if they miss school without an excused absence. The initiative steps in if students wind up in truancy court due to those absences.

BOWLING GREEN, KY– Civil Air Patrol Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Joshua Martin, Cadet Senior Airman Zane Allison, and 2 senior members, Major Andrew Miller and Chief Master Sergeant Cory Felts, were among the 161 cadets and adults from 35 Wings who completed Civil Air Patrol’s Hawk Mountain Ranger School (HMRS) in Kempton, Pennsylvania on July 17.
Denver nixes diaper tax, creates youth center
(Denver, Colo.) Denver ended its sales tax on diapers Monday, created a youth empowerment center, and invested almost $2 million in families. By ending its diaper tax, Denver will lose between $500,000 and $800,000 per year. The tax break also applies to adult incontinence supplies. Council members Amanda Sawyer and Jolon Clark worked together to sponsor the bill.
