Day 23 we woke up in the Great Sand Dunes National Park (Colorado), did one last quick hike then drove into New Mexico to visit Capulin Volcano National Monument. Cajas of Cuenca, Ecuador was hit with a 4.4 earthquake.(Kalistratova/iStock) Ecuador is generally a highly seismic region of the world. The region is prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and even tsunamis.

One of the world's largest volcanoes is located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. And when it eventually erupts again, the resulting damage might be catastrophic. According to Vox, "it could spew ash for thousands of miles across the United States, damaging buildings, smothering crops, and shutting down power plants."
