Biking the C&O Canal trail to Harpers Ferry - Explore West Virginia
The C&O Canal Trail is a 185 mile towpath spanning from Washing DC to Cumberland, MD. We rode 14 miles out and back to Harpers Ferry, WV. This trail is well-maintained and great for a family bike ride with kids.
What about schooling during a family trip around the world?!?
➡️ Book list freebie! Follow along and message us on Instagram if you'd like a link to our family's book list during our travels! Instagram.com/travelinggraces/ We are thankful that learning can be done from anywhere! Bookwork, reading, and writing can be completed on a train, in an Airbnb, or at a park. Maybe more importantly, learning can be on a guided tour, exchanging foreign currency, communicating with a language barrier, or during a discussion at the dinner table. Our goal for this year has been to do basic schoolwork but still leave as much time as possible for learning through world experiences. After all, it would be a shame to spend 6 hours on bookwork one day while the Colosseum is down the road! ✅ So here are our basic schooling components: - Math Workbooks - Journals - Reading Kindles - Typing through writing emails to friends and family - Language practice through Duolingo and YouTube videos - Learning about the country, sites, science, and history of the country

The Colombian Amazon with Kids?! Monkeys, Sloths, and Swimming in the Amazon River!
The Colombian Amazon is a hidden gem that has so much to offer! Cuddling with wild monkeys and sloths, swimming in the Amazon River, spotting pink river dolphins, and searching for anacondas were just a few of our family's highlights. You can also walk across the border for dinner in Brazil and get a drink across the river in Peru all in an afternoon! Leticia, Colombia, the "gateway to the Colombian Amazon", is accessed by a few flights per day out of Bogota. As there is no way to get here by land, the area still seems relatively untouched. The main square offers a few tour companies, a beautiful park, and views of the Amazon River... that's about it and it's glorious! We would recommend 3-4 days here. We did it in 2.5 and wish we had had one extra day of exploring. ➡️ What would be your family's highlight?! How Expensive is Traveling to Rome?
How expensive is Rome? Our familyspent a full week in the Eternal City in October 2021. We track all of our expenses and share our tips to help you plan your trip! For years, we have listed Rome as one of our favorite cities in the world, and we were excited to finally experience it with our kids.
Family Savings for Budget Travel
In our family (including our kids!), we will always choose a shared experience over any material possession or gift. This comes in all shapes and sizes for us: cheering on our favorite sports team, getting season passes to local amusement parks, hiking a new trail, but especially exploring new adventures while traveling. Because we have found this to be SO beneficial to strengthening relationships in our marriage and with our kids, we budget for and prioritize travel! On average, we try to do four week-long trips each year along with several other long weekend trips. While traveling, we have been to 5 continents, roughly 20 countries and countless cities along the way (some detailed in our vlogs!). This was all before our big adventure around the world so we’ve now added A LOT of stats to this. We realize this is a huge blessing in our lives to be able to do this. We also understand many family’s work schedules and/or finances don’t allow these experiences. However, because we have loved traveling as much as we have, we want to share with you a few ways that we save money while traveling. Our hope is to encourage you to step out and try something new with your family. So let’s get to it; here are 7 ways our family saves on travel.
Activities in Rome With Kids
** This post contains affiliate links. All opinions are our own. You should plan to visit Rome with kids. For years, we have listed Rome as one of our favorite cities in the world, and we were excited to finally experience it with our kids. Rome may be the most important city in the history of the world. After accounting for the history of religion, art, politics, architecture, and its impact on our world today, it has to be considered. Here’s one fun fact our family learned during our week in Rome: it was the first city to reach a population of 1 million people. Then, a staggering 1,943 years later, a second city (London) passed the milestone. This is just one example of the fascinating history that we learned from Tiffany, our LivTours guide.
Ten Ways to Spend Less and Travel More
Browsing through other families’ beautiful travel photos and videos can be fun and inspirational, but also frustrating if you want to be traveling but don’t think it’s doable for your family. This is exactly why we decided early on that an important component of Traveling Graces needed to be making travel attainable for others.
Four Months of Traveling the World: A Few of our Favorite Things
It’s been 4 months since our family left home and headed to Boston. We’ve had a lot of fun, made a lot of memories, made a lot of mistakes, and have learned a lot from traveling the world. Some of our learning has surprised us. For example, we all agree that we’d rather take a long bus instead of a plane. For reference, our longest bus ride was 10 hours and overnight.
Adventures in Slovenia with Kids
Our family had an amazing time in Slovenia with our kids. We started with 12 nights in Piran, and you can read about that part of our trip here. After a quick overnight to Croatia, we spent another 11 nights between Ljubljana and to the northwest, in the area of Triglav National Park. Our family is all about adventure. So during that time, we had some amazing experiences as a family. Here is the list of our top 5 adventure activities in Slovenia with kids.
Dubai with Kids
Our family did some great adventures in Dubai with kids during our 8 days in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in November 2021. When planning our trip around the world, Dubai was one of the few places we had predetermined to visit. Brandon is a huge fan of waterparks and had been saving his money for months in anticipation of the world-renowned parks. We arrived in Dubai from Hungary via plane, you can read about entering Dubai during COVID here.
Two Days in Budapest with Kids
Spending 3 nights in Budapest with kids was not on our list when planning our family trip around the world. Thankfully, that oversight was corrected by travel logistics. The cheapest way for us to get from Slovenia to Dubai was to transit via Budapest. We jumped on what has become our favorite way to travel (FlixBus) from Ljubljana to Budapest, where we spent 3 nights.
