Hometown hero Ronde Barber inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Roanoke Times is reporting that Native Roanoker Ronde Barber will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Barber and his twin Tiki Barber (who played for the New York Giants) attended Cave Spring High School in Roanoke County and were members of Maple Stree Baptist Church in Roanoke City. Ronde is considered a hometown hero as well as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend.
NFL quarterback Tom Brady announces his retirement "for good"
Tom Brady has announced his retirement from the NFL for the 2nd time, but he says this time it is "for good." Brady posted a short video to his social media accounts on Wednesday morning with a simple message saying "Good morning, guys, I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring, for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I just press record and let you guys know first. So, I won’t be long-winded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year."

The Tampa Bay area has lost a prominent member of the community. Dr. Joe Diaco passed away on December 19 at the age of 83. Dr. Diaco, also called Daytona Joe, was an involved member of many community organizations. A former Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and head doctor for the Tampa Bay Bucs, Joe left an indelible mark on the Tampa Bay community.
