An Unexpected Predictor for Longevity
For centuries, explorers scoured the earth for this mythical legend. One man, Ponce de Leon, became synonymous with it. Having heard a tale told by the Taino people of healing waters in Bimini; Ponce de Leon, then Governor of Puerto Rico, searched and slaughtered in a fruitless effort to find it.
Running in the Rain
It never rains in Southern California, but it's raining today. Fat drops splattering across dingy pavement that hasn't seen water in months. Oil resurfacing on the interstates, making driving doubly treacherous. Since it never rains here, nobody knows how to drive in inclement weather, either. There is a leak in the building I live in, causing water to seep onto my grey tiled floor. I pay $1,600 a month for an insignificant amount of square living space, complete with a sagging roof and leaking floors. One day, I found literal cat turds in the community washing machine. Another day, my kitchen faucet handle came completely undone, held down by what looked like Gorilla Glue.

Frack Richards was born in 1887 in a Kansas town called Minneapolis to Richard and Ellen Richards. When he was young, he fought in World War I and realized that he didn’t feel any pain when hit in the stomach.

"Why Do You Run So Much?"
First of all, I don’t run that much. I’ll run about 2,000 miles this year, which is about the distance from Los Angeles to Chicago. Not even far enough to get across the country. The “why do you run so much” question was first asked to me in middle school, when I started running every day after school in between cross country and track seasons. One day I went home, ran, then went to a friends house, where a cadre of my peers had gathered for no apparent reason. My answer then, was “I like to,” and I left it at that. I liked to, and I was pretty good at it. I liked to, and it eventually earned me a college scholarship. I liked to, and I felt like I should stick with the one thing I seemed to be good at.

How Often Should Elderly People Strength Train?
One of the most important markers of health as people age is their strength. Studies have shown quadriceps and grip strength are directly related to all-cause mortality. While strength can be improved without adding more muscle to your body, the amount of muscle you have raises the floor and ceiling of strength potential.
