Late-Night Owls at Higher Risk for Diabetes: Study
Staying up late may raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, especially for middle-aged women, according to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine journal. This study followed 63,676 female nurses aged 45 to 62 with no prior history of cancer, cardiovascular disease, or diabetes. The participants were monitored from 2009 to 2017, during which they reported their behaviors including sleep habits, diet quality, physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and body mass index (BMI). The research found that individuals with a tendency to be night owls, or "definite evening" chronotypes, were 54% more likely to lead an unhealthy lifestyle compared to those with earlier sleep patterns or "definite morning" chronotypes.
