Man, 59, Kayaking Around Scotland Suffers Medical Emergency
Nick Ray was cruising along in his kayak, about halfway through a one-year paddle around Scotland. Then something went terribly wrong. Ray reported a stroke-like incident that hospitalized him on the morning of March 9. Days later, the prognosis had changed to a possible palsy. Still, work remains ahead of the paddler if he seeks to get back in the boat.

A plausible explanation for the Loch Ness Monster
Have you heard of the Loch Ness monster? For centuries, people have been captivated by the story of a giant beast lurking beneath the surface of Scotland’s Loch Ness. The legend can be traced back as far as 1,500 years, when Irish missionary Saint Columba is said to have encountered a mysterious creature in the River Ness. Fast forward to the 1930s, and the first modern sighting of Nessie was reported in The Inverness Courier. The creature was described as being whale-like, with the water cascading and churning as it moved.

Skara Brae is a Neolithic settlement that is located on the largest island in Scotland's Orkney archipelago. The site was first discovered in 1850. An irregular knoll called Skara Brae was hit by a heavy storm which stripped it enough to expose the outline of a village consisting of several small houses without roofs.

UK Supreme Court Rules Scotland Can’t Hold Another Independence Referendum Without Permission

The UK Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that the Scottish Parliament is not allowed to hold a second independence referendum without permission from the government in Westminster. According to the President of the United Kingdom Supreme Court, Lord Reed, the Scottish Parliament simply does not have the power to be able to legislate for a referendum on independence as it effects the future of the United Kingdom as a whole, which solely lies within the purview of the government in Westminster. In taking this stance, Lord Reed rejected the claims of a right to self-determination under international law that were put forward by the Scottish National Party in the course of the court case.
