Opinion: 10 years. 180 school shootings. 356 victims
Since 2009, at least 177 of America’s schools have experienced a shooting. These tragedies are as diverse as our nation, but the depth of trauma is hard to convey. There is no standard definition for what qualifies as a school shooting in the U.S., Nor is there a universally accepted database. So CNN built our own. We examined 10 years ofshootingson K-12 campuses andfound two sobering truths: School shootings are increasing, and no type of community is spared.
Opinion: Universities are centers of higher education. So why are we senselessly killing each other with guns?

School Shootings and In-home Violence
Opinion piece: This is something that has not been discussed enough. I wish that the world was united and peaceful and the true goal was to be truthful and lend a hand to everyone and anyone. What it seems like is anything but peaceful out in the cold, cruel world. I know what it’s like I’m the product of in-home violence which people usually call Domestic Violence. Opinion: I am a Former Teacher. Arming Educators Must Not Become Mandatory.
There is sometimes chaos in the classroom, and frequently distractions. Unprepared teachers may place students at further risk. I want to be clear from the outset and acknowledge there are always exceptions to every stance. However, as a former special education teacher of at-risk children and adults (gang members, substance abusers, and those labeled as “severely emotionally disturbed”), dynamics in such classrooms may well severely jeopardize the safety of both students and educators if the latter are required to open carry while teaching.
Opinion Editorial: Uvalde, Texas… a Community Shattered
As I’m trying to wrap my brain around the murderous rampage of innocent lives yesterday in Uvalde, Texas… my heart is breaking and my soul is devastated. Times have changed since the days of my youth. Discipline is lacking and respect for others has drifted to the wayside. After reading numerous articles… thousands of comments… one thing stands out - blame is being placed where it shouldn’t be. This act of evil wasn’t political or demographic. Yesterday was about the hatred and mental illness trapped within an 18 year old individual… a man who should have never been able to get his hands on a firearm. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened. The blame solely rests on his shoulders.
