UTRNWLA Week 5 High School Softball Report
The middle of March saw the kick-off of some district games and the rolling up of the tournament season. Tournaments were held at Red River, Stanley, Evangel, Cedar Creek, Buckeye, Summerfield, Grace Christian, and Pineville that contained local teams.
UTRNWLA Week 3 High School Track and Field Report
The track season kept rolling on as some local teams made their debut into the track season. The Castor Invitational brought forward a number of teams like Doyline, Castor, Ringgold, Saline, Arcadia, and some other teams. Also the Castor Invitational features the Outstanding Female Competitors from Class B and C from last year. Izayla Harris from Doyline swept eight first place medals from two meets over Thursday at Castor and Friday at Lakeside. At Lakeside she was the only Panther to compete. Samora Sampson from Gibsland-Coleman, the co-Outstanding Female Athlete from Class C the previous year, competed in Castor.
Many Boys and Cedar Creek Creek Girls Bring Back Repeat State Powerlifting Titles Back To NW Louisiana
The Ochsner LHSAA Powerlifting State Championships are being held at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette this weekend. Division IV and Division V boys and girls powerlifting competed on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Going The Distance…UTRNWLA Week 2 Track and Field Report
Simsboro Tiger Relays (March 9) The Parkway Panthers won both the girls and boys competition handily at Simsboro Tiger Relays. Delhi Charter finished as runner up for the boys. The Simsboro Lady Tigers took runner up in the girls division.
On Your Mark…Get Set…Go 2023 Track Season - Week 1 UTRNWLA Track and Field Report
The first weekend of March brought along the beginning of the track season around the area. Local teams spread out across Northwest Louisiana to various track meets. Some highlights, Haynesville continued to be a juggernaut around the track and field area as they captured 33 medals for the North Webster Relays. The Golden Tornado also dominated slots on the new weekly Gold and Silver teams with 18 slots taken. Lakeside was next at 19 medals grabbed at the North Webster Relays. Simsboro’s Ikeia Brown went four for four on grabbing medals at the Cedar Creek High School Meet.

Northwest Louisiana Powerlifters Qualify For State Championships
The boys’ regional powerlifting meets were held across the state on Saturday, February 25. Powerlifters across the state are making their attempt to grab one of ten spots in each weight class to qualify for the Ochsner Powerlifting Championships at the CajunDome in Lafayette on March 22 and 23. The North Regional and the Central region featured lifters from the Northwest Louisiana area. The North regional was held in Shreveport at Calvary Baptist. The Central regional was held in Colfax at Grant HIgh School.
2023 Softball Season Starts Week 1 and 2 Report
The 2023 softball season has started and it is on a fast track to Sulphur. Local teams have already played tournaments in Logansport, Sam Houston (Lake Charles), Sterlington, Stonewall (North Desoto), Alexandria (Holy Savior Menard), and Leesville.

LHSAA Boys Basketball Playoffs Released
The LHSAA released the boys’ basketball brackets on Monday afternoon. Six local teams received first round byes inclusing Winnfield, Calvary Baptist, Lincoln Prep, St. Mary’s, Zwolle, and Gibsland-Coleman. More local teams will be on the road in the first playoffs 14-12.
High School Powerlifting Season Reaches Regionals
The first step to the state powerlifting meet in Lafayette on March 22 & 23 starts on Saturday, February 18 around the state as the Girls Regional Meet will start. The North regional schools will compete at Ruston High School and the Central regional will be Tioga for the girls. The boys’ regional will be on February 25 at Calvary Baptist for the North regional and Grant High School for the Central regional.
Milestone Week; Girls’ Regular Season Ends
The 2022-23 season is winding down for the boys and ending for the girls. With the end of the season comes many senior nights and recognitions. Senior Doyline Jamaria Clark surpassed 3000 points over his career. Clark will also make another milestone next week at Doyline’s Homecoming against Georgetown on Friday. Clark needs 2 points to reach 1000 points for the season.
LHSAA Girls Playoffs Released
The LHSAA girls’ basketball playoffs were released on Monday, February 13 morning. Twenty-two local teams will be starting the second season starting on Thursday evening. Four local teams received first round byes. Lakeview Lady Gators received the highest seed among local teams with a No. 2 seed. In the same Division IV Nonselect, back-to-back district champs Arcadia received one of the precious top 4 seeds in Non Select. Gibsland-Coleman's treacherous schedule and success paid off as they received a No. 3 seed and a first round bye in Division V Nonselect playoffs. Cedar Creek is the only select team in the area to receive a first round bye with a No. 7 seed in Division IV Select.
