Some Clay County residents can expect a refund on their 2023 property tax bill. The halt in curbside recycling pickup from Oct. 21, 2021, to Sept. 22, 2022, means that some residents have or will receive a refund of $22.70 for the missed service, County Commissioner James Renninger wrote in an email. America Recycles Day(via EPA) Want an easy way to help create over 680,00 jobs and $37.8 billion dollars in wages this year? The answer might surprise you. Recycle. Recycling contributes not only to the protection of our environment but also to “American prosperity.” As much as 7% of the waste that the average person throws out daily could instead be recycled and turned into objects such as park benches, picnic tables, or high-chairs.

A few years back, China made headlines for “breaking the world’s waste system” when they announced the National Sword Policy which would greatly reduce the amount of accepted recyclable imports. China then added salt to the wound by stating a desire to ban all recyclable imports in the coming years. Having previously accepted 95% of the European Union's plastic and 70% of the United States’ plastic, overnight, a number of countries turned their backs and labeled China a traitor. However, not only did China hint at these actions before, but they have also been solving a problem that other countries brought on themselves.

That tasty drink was good while it lasted, but now all that’s left is an empty plastic cup. Thankful for the memories, you get up and make your way toward the trash can. Seeing a variety of options, a small dilemma arises. Do you take the lazy road and throw your cup in the trash, or do you do right by the environment and put your cup in the recycling bin? Choosing the latter brings about a small bit of joy because you understand the importance of recycling. Little do you know, the destination of that plastic cup remains the same regardless of your choice.

Using decoupage paper on a project like this is so easy. I wanted to keep the color of the stool on the bottom, so I only painted the top of the seat to have a light, clean surface to add the paper. Before laying it on, I did a tamping technique to the top to give some texture to the background. I love how this came out, and I will use it again.
