First Full Week of 2023 Kicks Off District Play
At the beginning of 2023 although the majority of the area is still out of school had a full slate of games over the week. District 1-A started district play towards the end of the week. Haynesville, Homer, and Ringgold all took wins on the boys’ side. Haynesville and Plain Dealing girls started 1-0.
Class A and 2A Start…Tournaments A Plenty
Class A and 2A decided to join the party last week. Many teams have a good number of their players still on the gridiron. Class B and C have alright played a good amount of games. Ringgold boys ran the gauntlet of the Lakeside tournament. Doyline’s Jamaria Clark put 50 on 5A Byrd Yellow Jackets on Monday. All the action has just started. Coaches get your scorebooks in so we can get these shining stars seen.
Basketball Kicks Off in B & C and Other Leagues
Basketball is back, baby!!! Class B & C in LHSAA get a head start over A & 2A and some teams are starting to show they are the cream of the crop. Also, kicking off were MAIS and ACEL basketball. Weston Lady Wolves are already prowling the competition and have already claimed the Calvin Tournament. Gibsland-Coleman boys and girls are looking for a return trip to a state championship. Cedar Creek Lady Cougars Win Regional 1 Division IV Race And Other Region 1 Division IV Qualifiers
The Region 1 Division IV cross country meets were held last Thursday in Ruston. These races are the qualifiers for the state cross country meet to be held on November 14 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. The top eight teams in each regional race qualify for state. If a team does not qualify via team, they have to finish in the top 25 individually to qualify for the state meet.
Cross Country From Across Louisiana Compete At Cedar Creek Wallace Martin Invitational
The Cedar Creek Wallace Martin Invitational was held in Ruston last Saturday, September 24. Twenty-six schools from across the state competed. the boys' varsity had a field of 153 runners and the girls had 118.
Cross Country Trails - September 17 Report
The cross country season continued last weekend as local teams competed in two meets. The Glenbrook Apache cross country team was the only northwest Louisiana school to compete in the ULM Invitational in Monroe on Saturday.
Cedar Creek Runners Dominate at Choudrant Cross Country Meet
The cross country season kicked off over Labor Day Weekend in Choudrant at the Choudrant Aggie Invitational. The meet featured K-2nd grade, 3-4th grade, 5-6th grade, 7-8th grade, and High School division. Local teams from Cedar Creek, Choudrant, Quitman, Lakeside, Weston, Haynesville, and Summerfield competed in the high school division. Ean Allain from Simpson High School won the boy’s division with a time of 17:22.31. Freshman Bradie Epinette from St. Frederick’s won the Girls Division with a time of 20:07.28.
