Still No Cause Found for Illness Requiring Hospitalization in Dozens of Hillsboro Prisoners and Guards
Narcotics and hazardous substances ruled out as possible causes for illness that affected over two dozen inmates and guards at Hillsboro prison. However, Anders Lindall , a spokesperson for American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 3, the union representing prison staff was not satisfied with the investigation. He stated that the Corrections Department needs to look into the matter further. Level 1 and Level 2 Prisons in The State of Ohio
Prisons in Ohio are the worst of all states, with the highest rates of violence and sexual assault. The state has a total of 6 prisons that hold over 11,000 inmates. The largest prison is the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (SOCF) in Lucasville, which holds more than 5,500 prisoners. It was built in 1980 and is located on near the city of Lima. SOCF houses many violent offenders including murderers, rapists, child molesters, and gang members. Inmates have been known to escape from the facility as often as once every two months. The facility also has a history of riots and escapes.

A bill proposed last year in the Massachusetts state legislature would enact a five-year moratorium on the design and construction of prisons and jails in Massachusetts. The bill was reported out favorably from the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight on Jan. 24 and is now being considered by the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, bringing it one step closer to Governor Charlie Baker’s desk.

Tennessee Gov. Announces 37% Raise for Corrections Officers
Last week, Gov. Bill announced a 37% salary increase for new correctional officers hired by the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC). The move makes the starting salary for a Tennessee correctional officer $44,500.
