Beachgoers in Pinellas County may see something unusual if they take a beach day during the month of July. A large, electric robot known as 'BeBot' is to be deployed on 14 of the county's beaches and its job is to sift the top layer of sand, picking up small pieces of litter including cigarette buts, bottle caps and discarded chewing gum.

A 47-year-old man was found dead near Taylor Lake in Pinellas County on May 31 in what appears to have been a fatal alligator attack. The man's arm had been severed and it would seem alligators from the nearby lake are responsible.

The family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lealman Exchange. Hurricane season is here, and Pinellas County will host a free Hurricane Preparedness Day event on Saturday, June 4, to provide residents with a wealth of information and resources.

Program change asks residents to donate working household electronics, bring electronics to recycling drop-off or place electronics in garbage for curbside collection. Public information sessions to be held throughout month of June.

Pinellas County is now accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board (PCCLB). This appointment will fulfill the remainder of a current term ending on Sept. 30, 2022.

Enjoy the day on Shell Key! Shell Key is a small narrow barrier island located in Pinellas County, Florida. The primary ways to reach Shell Key is by boat or by kayak (or other water craft), of which the Shell Key Ferry launches daily from Fort DeSoto and has a fee of $25 per person. When taking a kayak out, be sure to review your map prior to departure. The kayak ride can take up to an hour to reach Shell Key, depending upon where you launch from. So remember to bring enough water, sunscreen, and snacks. There are kayak rental kiosks when you enter the Fort DeSoto Park and pay the entrance fee. On this adventure, we saw a live sea urchin, two crabs, two jelly fish, and a sand dollar. How cool is it to kayak to small deserted islands in the Gulf? Exploring these little Keys as they are called is so much fun! Kayaking to Shell Key Gulf Coast! Shell Key is a preserve or small island that is refuge for numerous sea birds and other plant life and wild life. The only way to get to Shell Key is by a water vessel. You can launch a kayak nearby the Ft. Desoto State Park in Pinellas County. Here are a few features and highlights on this adventure: *In your kayak, you pass Sister Key, a great spot to rest and explore carefully. Always watch for snakes and other wild life. *In between some of these keys is very shallow waters. You can step out and walk around and look for more shells, etc.. *Shell Key is home to a vast array of sea shells. Operation Green Light is an annual driver’s license reinstatement event that allows eligible Pinellas County customers to pay overdue court and traffic fines while saving additional fees. Since 2019, the Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court Operation Green Light event has helped thousands of customers become eligible for reinstatement.

Applications due by April 15, 2022, at 5 p.m. Pinellas County is accepting applications for funding through the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Countywide (JAG-C).
