A Robot Will Be Cleaning Beaches in Pinellas County This July – The Remote Controlled ‘BeBot’ Sifts Sand for Litter
Beachgoers in Pinellas County may see something unusual if they take a beach day during the month of July. A large, electric robot known as 'BeBot' is to be deployed on 14 of the county's beaches and its job is to sift the top layer of sand, picking up small pieces of litter including cigarette buts, bottle caps and discarded chewing gum.
Florida Man Dies After Apparent Gator Attack – He May Have Been Retrieving Frisbees From a Lake To Sell to Disc-Golfers
A 47-year-old man was found dead near Taylor Lake in Pinellas County on May 31 in what appears to have been a fatal alligator attack. The man's arm had been severed and it would seem alligators from the nearby lake are responsible.
Pinellas County to host free Hurricane Preparedness Day event on June 4
The family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lealman Exchange. Hurricane season is here, and Pinellas County will host a free Hurricane Preparedness Day event on Saturday, June 4, to provide residents with a wealth of information and resources.
Pinellas: Department of Solid Waste will no longer collect household electronics for recycling
Program change asks residents to donate working household electronics, bring electronics to recycling drop-off or place electronics in garbage for curbside collection. Public information sessions to be held throughout month of June.
Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board vacancy announced
Pinellas County is now accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board (PCCLB). This appointment will fulfill the remainder of a current term ending on Sept. 30, 2022.

Enjoy the day on Shell Key! Shell Key is a small narrow barrier island located in Pinellas County, Florida. The primary ways to reach Shell Key is by boat or by kayak (or other water craft), of which the Shell Key Ferry launches daily from Fort DeSoto and has a fee of $25 per person. When taking a kayak out, be sure to review your map prior to departure. The kayak ride can take up to an hour to reach Shell Key, depending upon where you launch from. So remember to bring enough water, sunscreen, and snacks. There are kayak rental kiosks when you enter the Fort DeSoto Park and pay the entrance fee. On this adventure, we saw a live sea urchin, two crabs, two jelly fish, and a sand dollar. Its pretty cool to see all this underwater life! *We return the live sea creatures that we find- back where we found them. You can launch a kayak nearby the Ft. Desoto State Park in Pinellas County. Always watch for snakes and other wild life. *In between some of these keys is very shallow waters.
