Alligator sighting at Ronnie Van Zant Park, public urged to stay away from pond
Clay County Government issued a notice Friday to avoid the pond at Ronnie Van Zant Park due to an alligator that was not scared off by park staff. The park, located at 2760 Sandridge Road, Lake Asbury, is still open to the public. At this time, Clay County Parks and Recreation is advising guests not to approach the pond, but there are no restrictions in place.
Clay County celebrates Parks and Recreation Month throughout July
Clay County is celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month during July with family-friendly activities and events planned at county parks. The Clay County Board of County Commissioners owns and manages nearly 60 recreational areas including eight conservation areas and green spaces, and 13 public boat ramps and piers, Public Information Officer Annaleasa Winter said. Boaters and kayakers have 39 miles of navigable waterways, and the county also maintains nearly 28 miles of multi-use recreational trails.
Dogs are getting a new recreation destination in Apache Junction
Apache Junction dog owners will have a new spot to take their pups with the opening of the Dutchman Dog Park on the County's Apache Junction Complex. The park was created as a collaboration between Pinal County and the City of Apache Junction.

Galentine's Day Campfire scheduled for 2/10
The Will County Forest Preserve will be holding a Galentine's Day Campfire on Thursday, February 10th from 7 PM to 8:30 PM CST at Hammel Woods in Shorewood, IL. The Galentine's Day Campfire will be held at Campfire #4, which can be accessed from the Hammel Woods entrance off of Illinois Route 59. The campground is about a quarter of a mile from the parking lot.
Denver City Council questions parks staff about on-call contracts
(Denver, Colo.) The Denver City Council quizzed city staff members over millions of dollars in contracts at Monday's City Council meeting. The first batch of questions came from City Council member Amanda Sawyer regarding Parks and Recreation Department contracts. The department asked for approval of 17 on-call contracts totaling $17 million for landscape design services.
Denver Parks wants more time to spend $18.5 million
(Denver, Colo.) By looking at Monday's Denver City Council agenda, you might think that the city is about to redesign all its parks. The council will consider approving 17 "on-call" contracts for companies that provide landscape design services. Each contract is for $1 million. The council also will consider extending the contracts, through April 2023, without changing the amount.
