Mission Concepcion in San Antonio, Texas
Today we are visiting one of Missions in San Antonio, Mission Concepcion. This is the only mission named after a women which is why, they joke, that the mission is so intact. It was built in 1711 and Catholic Mass is still held here every Sunday. This is the oldest unrestored stone church in America and is part of the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. You can see some of the restored artwork on the interior with sections that have not been restored for you to see what the original looks like now and how bright it would have looked when first painted. There is also an "annual double solar illumination event" which occurs yearly around August 15th. This is an amazing, awe inspiring location to visit.
