Controversial Training Sessions for Texas Law Enforcement led by Former Oath Keepers Leader Sparks Investigation

An NBC 5 investigation has discovered that the former leader of the far-right Oath Keepers, Richard Mack, has been able to attract law enforcement officers from over 80 agencies in Texas to attend his training sessions. Mack, who is a retired Arizona sheriff and a former board member of the Oath Keepers, has founded the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) and teaches local law enforcement officers that they have more power than the FBI and even the president, according to NBC 5. Mack maintains that the U.S. Constitution gives local law enforcement the authority to block federal officials and to personally determine the constitutionality of laws.

Federal prosecutors are back in court working to link four more Oath Keepers defendants with Stewart Rhodes, the milita group leader who was convicted of seditious conspiracy. Fox 4 reports that Rhodes and co-defendant Kelly Meggs became the first two defendants convicted of rarely used seditious conspiracy. Three others were acquitted of seditious conspiracy but convicted on other charges.

Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes of Granbury was convicted of seditious conspiracy for his part in the violent plot to overturn the 2020 election results that saw Joe Biden become the next president. This is a major win for the Department of Justice which has been spending time and money to hold those responsible.

Police have arrested a Florida man - Garrett James Smith of Oldsmar - on January 7 at a rally outside the Pinellas County Jail. The rally was being held by supporters of J6 protester Jeremy Brown, a suspected member of the right-wing group Oath Keepers, who is in jail for his part in the riots at the Capitol building in 2021.There have been early reports that Smith may be a member of an Antifa group, looking to disrupt the rally but that has yet to be substantiated.
