The Philly Four: City gets rid of mask mandate after four days
Philadelphia announced the removal of the mask mandate on Friday, only four days after putting it in place. The Board of Health voted on Thursday night to end the mandate, citing the leveling of COVID cases and a decrease in hospitalizations. The mandate was initially met with backlash as a group of residents and businesses filed a lawsuit almost immediately after it took effect.

We have all been through the various stages of the pandemic, and thankfully once again, things seem to be relaxing in most places. In February of 2022, Walt Disney World took a big step in a return to normal theme park experiences and removed the mask requirements in the parks and hotels. Then, in the beginning of April, another step was taken and we were excited to report that Walt Disney World was going to and has now since removed the barriers to meet and greet the characters once again.

Local public transportation reacts to end of federal mask mandate. On Monday a Florida judge sent shockwaves throughout the U.S.'s public transportation sector by invalidating the federal mask mandate on airlines. SEPTA, Amtrak and Uber all adopted similar strategies stating that masks will no longer be required but are still recommended. The Philadelphia International Airport still requires masks to be worn at terminals but whether a traveler has to wear a mask on the actual plane is up to the airline.
What the future may look like for NJ Transit and masks
According to reports online, The Biden administration has recently announced it will be extending the mask mandate requirements on mass transit until May 3rd. The mandate, which took effect during the pandemic, was set to expire today, April 18th.

Philadelphia's indoor mask mandate returned on Monday, making the City of Brotherly Love the first in the country to reinstitute the COVID protection. The decision to adopt the mandate came as cases begin to rise, however, overall transmission and hospitalizations remain low. Businesses with a vaccine requirement do not have to require masks.

The mandate will return on April 18 and require masking in public places. COVID cases have increased 50% over the past 10 days but Mayor Jim Kenney is hopeful that these precautions will help mitigate a new potential surge.

ALCO students no longer required to wear masks in classrooms as of mid-March
